Meal deal at Preachers and a morning at Machine.

My friend S told me about a deal at Preachers and I was immediately ready to try it, $15 for a burger and a beverage every Thursday!

I love Preachers - it's an eclectic mix between boutique and hipster. It's totally cool but it's also fully relaxed which is quite a skill to balance.
Grab a beer from their old school pub.
And enjoy in the grandad room (that's my name, totally unofficial) or outside in the sunshine. In the absence of said sunshine there are huge heaters and an abundance of covered seating alternatives.
We settled down outside and chatted over our ciders, I desperately tried to encourage D to go with me and mess around on the bus - Preachers' new addition, but alas we were adults that evening.

It has a student vibe to it, so make sure if you're a struggling student to let your mates know about this one.

So, the food. Me and D decided (I say 'decided' I mean I persuasively suggested) one beef, one chicken and we would share, best of both worlds!
The burgers came and certainly looked the part.
Chicken.
Beef.

AND chips! Sold.
The garnishes were spot on and the bread was delicious too, we both preferred the chicken.
I've had better burgers and better chips. But, I've not had better in Hobart for this price AND you get a drink. I'm all about value, good value is almost as important as good food to me (almost) and we left feeling full, happy and like we could still afford to buy groceries this week!
If you're one of those people who wants to save your pennies and splurge every now and then on something truly fantastic then skip this one. I'm one of those people who believes if I can get the best of both worlds I will! I get to make the memories and spend the time with D rather than in the kitchen. And as the evenings start getting longer and warmer finding deals like this means eating out becomes more accessible and something I can do three times a week instead of one. Win.

Any one else know of any awesome food deals in Hobart?

We took advantage of the pennies saved with breakfast at a Hobart institution on Sunday morning, Machine Laundry Cafe.
Located in Salamanca amongst the countless foodie favourites, Machine manages to hold a place in my top spots for breakfast despite the competition. The menu is full of breakfast delights with delicious twists and variations. They also offer small serves of most of their dishes which I love.
We went with friends and I didn't take too many pictures of the space although it's completely quirky and cool (it was seriously busy and all of my pics have people's faces in them and I would hate for someone to see an unflattering picture of them-self all over the web).
I did however take pictures of the food and let's be honest, food is better than faces.
Hot cakes.
Eggs Benedict.
Fat Boy (chicken, bacon, tomato and lettuce wrapped in roti bread, topped with spicy peanut sauce).
Everything was perfectly cooked, extremely fresh and tasted amazing (or so I'm told). My eggs Florentine was perfect, thank you!
I've always had great, fast service and delicious food, I think we are spoiled in Hobart, don't you?
Where are your favourite places to eat brekkie?
I'm house sitting in South Hobart at the moment and planning to check out Ginger Brown and/or The Food Store Cafe, would love to know which one you recommend!

I'll leave you with a breakfasty joke. Two eggs, a sausage and a pancake walk into a bar. The bartender says, "sorry, we don't serve breakfast".

  1. South Hobart is tops! If you can, try both The Foodstore AND Ginger Brown - they both have unique strengths. (If you go to The Foodstore make sure to order off the breakfast menu, not the lunch - the serves are bigger and the food is altogether more delicious, and they serve breakfast all day!) If you go to Ginger Brown try something off the 'specials' menu - they excel at making dishes that are 'twists' on traditional.
